Help Children Understand the Concept of Death

When talking to a child about death, it’s important to tailor the discussion to the child’s age. For children that are six years old and younger, use words that they can understand. Use plain language such as “his body was done living,” and avoid using euphemisms such as “she died in her sleep,” as this can confuse and even worry children. Creating a memory book is a great activity to help children understand death and mourning. Watch the video clip for more tips on helping children understand the concept of death.
