Resources for Dealing with Grief after the Loss of a Loved One

Elderly man lost in thought

Grief is a natural process that affects different individuals in different ways. Some people prefer to grieve mostly in solitude, while others grieve in a more outward manner. To find out about some of the most helpful resources for dealing with grief, read this article:

  • Friends and Family

Your friends and family care about you and will offer any support you need during your time of mourning. Some of your friends may want to help you but be unsure what kind of support to offer or whether you would prefer to be alone—let them know how they can help you grieve.

  • Written resources

If you think it might be helpful, then visit online forums for discussing grief and loss and read what others have posted. You can also search for publications that may help you improve your understanding of the complex and highly personal process of grieving.

  • Support Groups

Especially for those who feel like nobody understands what they are going through, grief support groups are a great way to build a network of non-judgmental and understanding acquaintances who are also struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one.

  • Counseling

If you do not feel comfortable discussing the loss of your loved one with friends or in a group setting but you feel like you need someone to listen to you, then seek out a grief counselor. Some funeral homes offer grief counseling to help you in your time of need.

  • Time

Whenever you are struggling, remember that coping with the loss of a loved one takes time. Make an effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle while you are grieving and seek consolation in in the places you find the most comfort. Eventually, the intensity of the loss will lessen and some semblance of normality will return to your life.

If you have recently lost a loved one, then call Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park at (253) 584-0252 to speak to a helpful and experienced funeral home director today. We offer three chapels, a reception center, and an on-site grief counselor.
